Is it easy to tell if your home has hard water?
There are tests that can be performed on the water to determine how high the mineral content is in your water. However, there are tell tale signs that become apparent when the home has a hard water issue.
In sinks, you may find that there is often a layer of soap scum. There may be unpleasant rings of mineral deposits around the faucet or even in the toilet bowl.
A buildup of limescale can affect solar heating.
Water pipes can start to not work efficiently due to accumulating scale deposits.
Appliances throughout the home, that use water will also be affected by hard water. You may start to see a build up of white, scaly deposits in kettles and pots etc. Hard water can even have an effect on laundry, wearing clothes out quicker and making them look dull.
These effects vary depending on the water temperature and also its acidity.
As we can see, there are many ways to tell if we have hard water in the home. Can anything be done about it though, and can it have an affect on our health? We will address this in a further blog.
