For the most part, no. If you put a brick on a sponge, it is going to settle, move, and be uneven. It is the same thing with patios (or any heavy concrete of wood component). The patio sits on the ground (which has water and soft spots in it) and it settles and moves.
But there are some circumstances that do make it an issue though. For instance, if it creates a serious drainage issue. On rare occasions a solid concrete patio can actually push against structural members and cause serious damage.
